Camera Skids for Every Pipe Size
A camera skid is the attachment that carries your inspection camera head through the pipe. It lifts the lens off the pipe floor, centers the head so the LED lighting spreads evenly, and shovels the camera up and over offsets and joints instead of nose-diving into them. The right skid also lets you push farther, because a smooth skid glides where a bare head would drag and bind.
Skids are sized to the pipe and matched to your camera head. Most crews carry a set and swap them at the truck as the job changes.
What a Camera Skid Does
- Lifts the head off the pipe floor so debris and silt don't smear across the lens
- Centers the camera so the lights illuminate the full pipe wall evenly instead of glaring off one side
- Shovels over offsets and joints, lifting the head over obstacles instead of catching on them
- Increases push distance by giving the head a smooth, non-binding ride through plastic, clay, cast iron, and concrete pipe
- Protects the camera head, taking the wear that would otherwise land on the lens and housing
Standard Skids vs. Guide Skids
There are two kinds, and the names matter when you order.
A Standard Skid is the protective collar that fits directly over the camera head. It's the baseline — it guards the head and keeps it off the pipe floor on smaller lines.
A Guide Skid is the larger, sized cage that centers the head in a specific pipe diameter. You choose a guide skid to match the pipe you're inspecting: a 3-inch guide skid centers the head in 3-inch pipe, a 4-inch in 4-inch pipe, and so on. The bigger the pipe, the bigger the guide skid you want, so the camera rides in the center instead of dragging along the bottom.

Type-B Adjustable Skid
For larger pipe, the Type-B is a sprung, adjustable skid that centers the head in big lines where a fixed skid would let it wander. Its arms fold in to pass the pipe opening, then spring out to hold the camera dead-center. It fits both the D34 and D46 heads, and it's available with an optional light kit for extra illumination in large-diameter mains.
