The 5-Watt and 10-Watt transmitters from Vivax-Metrotech come equipped with a standard "SD" (Signal Direction) frequency. This feature helps verify that the located line is indeed the one to which the transmitter is connected. When the transmitter is attached to a target line, the signal travels along it and typically returns via the ground and ground stake. However, the signal may also return along nearby cables or pipes if they offer an easier path.
This can result in multiple signals radiating from nearby cables and pipes, making it challenging to identify the correct line. These return signals usually travel in the opposite direction of the applied signal. The Signal Direction feature identifies the direction of signal flow, helping to pinpoint the target line.
When using a receiver with the SD feature, the receiver's LCD will display a directional arrow. If the arrow points away from the transmitter, you're on the correct cable. If it points toward the transmitter, you're on a line where the signal is returning to the ground.
Receiver SD upgrades are available for the vLoc3-Pro, vLocPro2, and vLocML2+.
