Type “B” Skid with Light Kit

Center Your Camera in Big Pipe

When you run a camera manhole to manhole through 8-inch and larger pipe, a standard skid lets the head wander and drag along the bottom. The Type “B” Adjustable Skid holds the camera dead-center, lifting it above debris and flow so you get a clean, level picture the whole run.

Its sprung arms fold in to pass through the pipe opening, then expand to brace against the pipe walls and carry the head down the center. It’s the skid built for the big straight runs where a fixed skid can’t keep up.

Built for Straight Runs, 8″ to 15″

  • Adjusts for 8″ to 15″ pipe — one skid covers the range instead of carrying several sizes.
  • Collapses to enter 8″ pipe, then expands to center the head in larger diameters.
  • Keeps the head centered and level on long manhole-to-manhole runs.
  • Lifts the camera over debris and flow so silt and standing water don’t blind the lens.
  • Fits D34 and D46 heads on the Type-CP reel, on either the 12mm or 13mm pushrod.

12mm or 13mm Pushrod — and Why 13mm Is the Better Match

The Type “B” skid works on either pushrod, but it pairs best with the stiffer red 13mm rod. Here’s the logic: the Type “B” is a big-pipe tool, and big pipe means long runs. A stiffer rod pushes farther down a long straight line without coiling, which is exactly the work this skid is built for. If you’re running the Type “B,” you’re usually in the pipe the 13mm rod handles best. It runs fine on a 12mm setup too — the 13mm is simply the stronger pairing for the job.

Optional Type “B” Light Kit

Big pipe swallows light. The optional Type “B” Light Kit adds a high-output 6000 MCD beam to the front of the skid, throwing usable light down large-diameter pipe where the camera’s own LEDs fade out. It mounts to the front of the skid and runs on its own three AA alkaline batteries — no reel power or control module required — giving up to two hours of intermittent use. Drop in fresh batteries and keep working.

How It Works

The Type “B” is the skid for large-diameter, straight-line inspection — storm mains, sewer trunks, and any manhole-to-manhole run where the pipe is too big for the head to stay centered on its own. Fold the arms in, feed it through the manhole opening, and let the sprung arms expand to carry the camera down the middle of the pipe. Add the light kit for pipe big enough that your camera’s own lighting can’t reach the walls.
