Jameson 18-FFPS1 Fiber Driver Installation System

Part Number: 18-FFPS1

The Jameson 18-FFPS1 Fiber Driver Installation System combines three essential tools for faster, more organized FTTH final-drop installations: the drill-powered Fiber Driver Kit, the 18-FW1 Fiber Winder, and the RB-36 Spool Mule.

Together, these components help a single operator manage the cable reel, mechanically advance compatible flat-drop fiber through duct, and neatly organize excess cable for storage in a handhole. The system eliminates many of the repetitive hand-over-hand movements associated with manual cable feeding and can reduce reliance on pull lines and fish tapes in suitable installations.

Complete FTTH Fiber Installation System

The 18-FFPS1 supports the fiber-installation process from reel payout through excess-cable storage:

  • The RB-36 Spool Mule supports the fiber reel and allows cable to pay out as it is installed.
  • The 18-FFPC1 Fiber Driver Kit uses a compatible cordless drill to advance flat-drop cable directly into the duct.
  • The 18-FW1 Fiber Winder organizes excess cable into a neat bundle for storage in a handhole or other approved location.

This coordinated system helps crews maintain better control over the cable while improving jobsite organization and installation efficiency.

Drill-Powered Fiber Installation

The included Fiber Driver replaces repetitive manual cable feeding with a controlled mechanical drive. A compatible cordless drill rotates the drive wheel, allowing the operator to advance fiber through the duct while controlling speed and direction.

The Fiber Driver weighs approximately 1.4 pounds, making it compact enough for handheld operation and storage in a standard toolbox or equipment bag.

Actual installation speed and distance depend on the cable, duct, route, bends, elevation changes, cleanliness, reel setup, drill, and operator technique. The stated performance of more than 300 feet in less than 30 seconds reflects suitable installation conditions and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed result for every route.

Direct-Reel Cable Payout

The RB-36 Spool Mule provides a portable platform for supporting compatible fiber reels during installation. Its built-in axle allows the reel to rotate as the Fiber Driver pulls cable from the spool and advances it into the duct.

Direct-reel payout can eliminate the separate step of laying cable on the ground before installation. This helps reduce handling and keeps the cable better organized around the work area.

The Spool Mule accommodates compatible reels:

  • Up to 36 inches in diameter
  • Up to 100 pounds in loaded weight

Its heavy-duty steel frame collapses for transportation and storage, while built-in wheels make the stand easier to reposition around the jobsite.

Organize Excess Fiber for Handhole Storage

The included 18-FW1 Fiber Winder allows technicians to rapidly wind and bundle up to approximately 200 feet of compatible excess cable.

This is particularly useful when flat-drop fiber must be stored in a handhole before direct burial, final connection, or future service work. The Fiber Winder creates a more organized bundle than loose hand coiling and separates for quick removal of the finished coil.

When not in use, the Fiber Winder breaks down flat for compact storage.

Mid-Span Access and Reverse Operation

The Fiber Driver can be loaded onto or removed from compatible cable at a mid-span location. The entire cable does not have to be threaded through the tool before installation begins.

Mid-span access gives crews greater flexibility when working between reels, handholes, building entrances, access points, and existing cable routes.

The tool also operates in forward and reverse, allowing compatible cable to be advanced or retracted as installation conditions require.

Duct Adapter Compatibility

The included 18-FFPC1 Fiber Driver Kit contains adapters for the following nominal duct sizes:

  • 10 mm
  • 12.7 mm
  • 14 mm
  • 16 mm
  • 18 mm

Confirm the duct’s actual inside and outside dimensions, cable profile, route condition, and adapter compatibility before beginning an installation.

Optional Fish-Tape Application

When equipped with the appropriate urethane drive wheel and optional Jameson Little Buddy Adapter, the Fiber Driver may also be used to push and retract compatible Jameson fish tapes.

The urethane wheel, Little Buddy Adapter, fish tape, and related accessories are not included with the standard 18-FFPS1 system unless specifically listed.

18-FFPS1 Compared with the 18-FFK1 Air Boost Kit

The 18-FFPS1 is a complete cable-handling and installation package that includes the Fiber Driver, Fiber Winder, and Spool Mule. It does not include the compressed-air-powered Air Boost Unit.

The 18-FFK1 combines the Fiber Driver with an Air Boost Kit for installations where compressed air is used to help reduce cable-to-duct friction. It includes Air Boost accessories but does not include the Fiber Winder or Spool Mule.

Choose the system based on the installation workflow:

  • Select the 18-FFPS1 for an integrated reel-payout, mechanical-pushing, and excess-cable-management package.
  • Select the 18-FFK1 when compressed-air assistance is needed to support longer or more demanding duct installations.
